Install Moulding

A quick and easy way to enhance the appearance of a room is to install moulding. Dressing up your ordinary walls can add character, elegance, or drama to any room.

Project time: approximately two hours

  1. Gather your materials. You will need: GE Silicone II* Paintable Silicone Caulk, a tape measure, miter saw, drill, drill bits, coping saw, nail set, utility knife, putty knife, flat bar, and sandpaper.

  2. Cut the piece of moulding to fit the space.

  3. Using a miter box, make miter cuts for moulding that will meet at interior or exterior corners.

  4. Nail the moulding to the substrate in a few evenly spaced areas, using small finishing nails.

  5. Use GE Silicone II* Paintable Silicone Caulk to fill gaps between moulding and wall or ceiling.

Don't Waste Time and Energy

Not all caulk is the same. Because silicone is permanently waterproof, flexible, and shrink-/crack-proof, unlike most non-silicone caulks, it won't leave gaps or cracks for air and water to seep through over time. Those leaks can lead to water damage, mold growth, and higher energy bills—all of which can translate into your lost time (when you have to do the job again), lost energy, and lost money.
